Technical Designer                          November 2022 - August 2023

High Steaks - Unreal Engine 4.27 - VFS School Project. Vancouver, BC

  • POC for technical strategies and design implementation on a team of six. 

  • POC for an audio team of six. Demonstrated constant and effective communication. Set up meetings and implemented audio.

  • Iterated many passes on our level design. Ensured game flow and pacing were up to par, bullet proofed edge cases, and maintained integrity of the game world while having many varied enemy encounters. 

  • Designed and implemented melee combat and three different enemy types. Utilizing behavior trees and visual scripting, I fostered enemies that are engaging and possess their own identity.

  • Designed and implemented five different UI screens. All of the elements went through at least four of their own iterations.

  • Dove deep with Game Designer and Environmental artist to conceptualize our world properly with our levels layout and game mechanics.

  • Set up all important tunable variables into data tables at the start of the project for constant and quick balancing. Balancing went through six iterations due to this. The task of balancing never took over an hour.

  • Maintained optimization and performance quality through the whole project. Steadily strived for sixty frames throughout even the most expensive parts of the map. Whenever the game would skip or drop frames, we would look into it right away, usually understanding the issue already due to organization.

  • Worked with the team on the game design document and technical design document. Ensured great communication and aligned visions throughout the team as a whole. 

  • The technical design document kept us organized by demonstrating code tutorials, tool tutorials, folder structures, prefix/suffix naming conventions, etc. 

  • All of the technical documentation made it easy for designers and the rest of the team to navigate through the project with ease.

  • Collaborated with Technical Artist to complete technically inclined tasks such as grappling, kicking, jiggle/tail physics, and enemy attacks.

  • Worked closely with Character Artist on animation in order to implement smooth melee combat animations for both the enemies and player.

 

Level Designer / Programmer                                       March 2023 - April 2023

Those Dam Fish - Unity - VFS School Project. Vancouver, BC

  • POC for all design related meetings and discussions for a team of five members. 

  • POC for technical implementation and bug fixes. 

  • Collaborated with the team’s programmer to complete programming tasks such as enemy attacks, audio implementation, tower behavior and enemy wave spawning.

  • Created a game design that veered away from genre tropes. Designed a Tower Defense that had armor values and penetration mechanics. 

  • Produced 3 iterations of a Tower Defense Level Design using pro builder, establishing proper pacing of encounters and flow of each enemy wave.

 

Technical Designer                                                          March 2023 - May 2023

Quest For Valor - Unreal Engine 4.27 - VFS School Project. Vancouver, BC

 

  • Visual Scripting : Created blueprints and interfaces that allowed me to add mechanics and encounters. Designed and implemented three types of encounters. Puzzle, platforming and a bossfight.

  • Level Design : Using fundamental level design concepts such as block-outs, mass & void, prospect space, refuge space, line of sight, flow, pacing, landmarks, and key gameplay moments to create a massive  gameplay experience.

  • Documentation : Created a Level Design Document that depicts in depth narrative, environments, and gameplay. Then Detailing intensity and difficulty of each level beats.

  • Tools : Worked with the premade tools created with blueprints. Manipulated checkpoints, enemy AI, and splines. With the help of little documentation, I was able to navigate and utilize another person's tools and code to create my own project.
